2013 Reflection

Class for me this year was one-hundred percent because it felt like I still had some strategies from last year plus I'm in the same class with Mrs Squires. Physical fitness for me was eighty percent because running around the reserve was fun. Maori lessons with Ms Titio was probably ninety-eight percent cause I loved the new Waiatas and Mihis we learned.

The thing that was one-hundred and twenty percent for me was the literacy and creative rotation because I loved movie making with Ms King and writing about different topics with Mrs Lagitupu. Net-books were the same but for some reason I feel guilty for playing games sometimes.

Starting at eight-thirty in the morning was exhausting for me because I usually wake up at that time. I just like singing in the morning with my class and hearing other people’s Mihis. Detention didn't really effect me in any way because I only went like three times. Friends from this year are probably Tevita, Mateo, Alex, Tau and Josh. My favourite subject is reading and I reckon that twenty-thirteen for me was five-hundred percent.

Reflection: 2013

Having a net-book compared to paper and pencil is one-hundred times better. I think with the internet disconnecting sometimes is probably
because of minor issues. Net-books are bad and good because it helps me with maths with maths site such as Xtra-math, Maths-whizz and Sumdog. With reading I go to Oxford-owl. Then for writing of course I go to Google-docs.

I think the special thing I’ve learned from my teacher this year is probaly when you are doing Ratio for maths you have to keep on using the same strategie to make it to the answer. Like there was a ratio for boys and girls. For every five girls there were five boys so if there was fifth-teen girls how much boys would be there. First I did three times five equals fifth-teen. So I did the same strategie and did fifth-teen plus fifth-teen equals thirty.

Khi khi has taught me to use Terminal and download software safely on line. Tau had taught me basic facts and Tevita taught me how to be dodgy on our net-books. I only took my net-book home at the beginning of the year but I only taught my sister how to play Super-Tux a platform type game which is pretty smart for a four year old girl. I also taught my mum how to use the internet better and she’s only thirty years old.

Camp highlights

The ride to Rotorua was my highlight of the first day of camp. I also liked the nature walk we had because Hare and I took a short-cut and beat our buddies. But the best of all was dinner which was chicken casserole, steamed rice, glazed carrots and a mix of peas and corn and butter heaps of butter. I'm sharing my
cabin with Mateo,Josh,Richard and Hossanah. But I hated it because Mateo and Richard keeps on farting.

My highlight for the second day of camp was the was the fresh thermal creek we swam in. The Agrodome show was cool how they learned the sheep to go to their right spot on the stage and how the dogs jump onto the sheep and leaps from side to side. After the show we got to feed the baby sheep's and watch the ducks fight. But best of all was milking the cows it was fun and funny. For dinner we had nacho chips and a meat nacho dish which was yummy.

The third day was wet and we went for a one hour bush walk around the blue lake. Then we had a swim in the blue lake in the rain which was fun. Then we went to the pools and we were aloud to do bombs there was even a trampoline. For dinner we had roast chicken with roast potatoes and peas again. I had two plates and the rest of my cabin group had four plates which is a big appetite.

Swimming T4

Swimming was fun and exciting at first but when we really swimed I was focused and serious and ended up in the the level 1 class in the leisure pool. First we learn basics such as kicking, breathing and pointy toes. First we did head looking up kicking from wall to wall. Which was pretty easy but tiring. Then we did some head under water kicking to wall to wall which was quite hard for me.

Then we started with arm-strokes with head in water. Easier because arm-strokes make you faster. Then we started swimming side-ways that meant half our head had to be in the water while kicking side-ways. I love swimming side-ways because I always come first in that swimming style. Our instructors are Tobey,Haley and Irene but my favourite was Tobey because he was fun plus he’s a boy.

Then we did a swim where we do ten kicks with our head in the water then we spin around onto our backs then start kicking and floating looking at the ceiling. Then finally we have a race at the end with any style of our choice my choice was running in the water but I came last of course. After I finish I go jump in the cold pool where the advanced people swim to get cooled down.

My Future Aspirations

There was this one time when me and my brother was running down the street with no shoes going to the shop. As I was running I stopped when I turned around I saw my brother bleeding holding his feet. There was a cut and I saw the inside of his foot. I looked at him he wasn't screaming and he wasn't crying but he just said that it was stinging. I then carried him onto my back and carried him back home. When the ambulance came they thanked me for bringing him home and that’s when I wanted to save lives like ambulance workers and doctors.

Well want I would want to do is save lives like being a surgical doctor or an ambulance worker. Or either become an architect you know designing houses or even mansions. If those don’t work out I’ll start up a restaurant called Melvinz-Munchiez which would pretty awesome. Imagine having pork nuggets or even pork tacos or pork head, well you know what I mean. But my number one job is to be a secret-agent. Like Johnny English and James Bond.

Maths WK5

The shop is selling jandals for $9 a pair.  They have sold $486 worth of jandals so far. How many pairs have they sold?

486 ÷ 9 = ___
9 x ___ = 486
9 x 50 = 450  then
9 x 4 = 36 which makes 486
So they have sold 50 + 4 jandals = 54

There are  8 boxes. Each box has 25 apples in it. How many apples are there altogether?
20 X 8 = 160
8 X 5 = 40
The answer: 200

Extra Question: 1. Trevor has to drive 422 km’s. He looks at his odometer and sees he has gone 289 kms. How much further has he got to go? 289+133=422 So add 1 to 289 which makes 290 then add ten to make 300 then add 122 which makes 422.

Friend Description

Tevita: He is funny and annoying but athletic these are his known personalities. His favourite food is probably fried rice with pork. His favourite movie is Rush-hour or Ip-man mine is Snakes on a plane which is rated adults only. He’s fast and his jokes are not funny but I pretend to laugh to make him feel good because that's what friends do.

Mateo: He’s good at rugby and cross-country. He has no favourite food because he is always on diet’s for rugby. He must look fit but he’s actually lazy. He likes comedy action movies like me. He never dances and sings around people because he’s quite but his jokes are funnier than Tevita he’s also the same height as me.

Tau: He’s a game-freak but he’s not lazy and is funnier than comedians. His favourite movies are ones with guns, bombs and bazooka’s. His favourite food is grape flavoured fizzy drinks which is pretty ironic if you ask me. He has long hair and is a inch taller than me I think.

Gabriel: He’s funny but not funny. His favourite movie is Chucky which is funny to me. He plays rugby league for Otahuhu-Leopards and is good at playing touch. His favourite food is fried bread which is my second favourite. His favourite colour is red but mine is purple.

Temple of Miltonius

As I collected some petals from a rare plant I then catched up to the rest of my Tomb-raiders behind a ginormous tree of baboons. We were searching for a relic in a hidden temple of Miltonious. We stopped at a cliff wall covered in vines and dead weeds. We then continued to scan the wall searching for  a secret door. We then cleaned the whole wall and found symbols all over the wall.

Luckily we had Adam who was a symbol reader. He studied the symbols and copied some of them on to his notes. We were bored so we started pushing our hands into the wall randomly to find the door. Then Adam yelled “ STOP “! We all stopped and stared at him and said “ What?”. He replied “there are booby traps so I wouldn’t do that if I was you”. I looked at him laughing then I pushed one more time when I felt like as I was falling I looked down frightened when I saw me and my crew falling into pitch black. As I screamed I was thinking that i’m going to splat at the bottom of this hole.

I then heard a splash. I looked down and saw a shimmer of water. I then thanked god and dived a little scared. I looked around and saw treasure I was so happy but also disgusted because I was soaked in anceint water. To be continued!

Truck loader 4

Truck loader is on the website cool-maths it is a game with a truck which uses a magnetic arm to grab boxes and carriages
to a load on to a bigger truck. This game involves elevators electric boxes to reverse the magnetic arm and trap floors. There is a part 1,2,3 and 4 for this game. It is fun but you also have to use your mind to conquer this amazing game with skills and you can even blow your-self up if a level gets to hard for which always  happens to me! There are some other games I recommend in the cool-maths game website that you should play.

Auckland vs Syria

Melvin: I woke up in the morning with the light of the sun on my face. I continued to lie down in my warm bed. As I was falling asleep again, all of a sudden my dad came in shouting “Get ready for school”. I moaned and kicked the blanket off me. As I got up I heard my dad eating like a pig by himself in the kitchen as usual.

Marvin: The sound of people screaming woke me up every morning. Hopping out of my cardboard box in the abandoned building, I walked along the hard stone floor to eventually arrive at my mother’s room three floors down. I had always wondered why people were screaming until I walked outside and saw people getting shot everywhere. “Why are these people doing this”

Slowly I walked into the kitchen with my arms hanging down beside me. I stared at the eggs and bacon for a second. I asked my dad if I could have some, but he said no and told me to wait for my mum. So I moaned even louder making me a bowl of weet-bix instead. I poured the milk in the bowl making the weet-bix soggy.

I then arrived at my boss’s house to finally see what job I was going to have to do today. “Water collecting” he said to me. “Ugh” I said to myself. I was sprinting around town gathering all the buckets possible then filling them up. Delivering was the most hardest part but I wasn't going to give up. I had finished my job for today and finally I could go home.

As I left my school at 3:PM I was feeling hot as the sun shined on me. I felt my back lifting me down because I just finished Athletics training. When I got home I walked in seeing my mum having afternoon tea with my brother and sister. I wasn't hungry I just wanted to go to sleep. But I had to do my chores which was mow the lawn, pull the weeds, water the garden, clean my room and mop the bathroom. But at the end I had play outside and had fish and chips for dinner.

I was making my way home and right behind me was a little boy that looked like he had no home. Almost arriving at my house when he told me a very very sad story. He said to me “My parents died from some bad people cause they had a bomb”. Arriving at home and saying to my mum “this boy has no parents can we live with us?”. “Yes” she replied. We then lived happily ever after.

New island

A major earthquake has hit  Pakistan, causing  a new island to rise from the sea just off the country’s southern coast. That earthquake was so powerful that it caused the seabed to create a small island about 600 meters away from the coast of Pakistan in the Arabian sea. The officials say the rate of the earth-quake was unknown but 45 people has die and it may just increase.

Maths WK1

This is my maths mural about rotation, reflection and translation!
Mahia is an artist. She has been commissioned to paint a mural on wall of a company's warehouse. The company wants the mural to be abstract (not representational) and they want it to show the colours of their company logo. They have specified it needs to have 1/3 blue,  1/6 red, 1/12 yellow, 1/12 white 1/12 purple and 1/4  green. They want it to have 2 lines of symmetry (reflection)  and  a rotating and translating pattern somewhere.

Shack and the bean- stalk

On
ce upon a time there was a boy named Shack who lived with his mum. They lived in the far side of the forest in a tiny cottage. Shack was an only child and ever since his dad left them they became a very poor family. The only thing they had besides themselves, was their cow. “Shack, my boy go take our cow to the town square and trade it for something valuable” Shacks mum demanded.

As soon as Shack arrived at the town, a strange old monk approached him. Shack did not know what he wanted but the monk still walked towards him. The monk carried coloured beans in his hands. He said “take these beans because these holy beans are special”. The monk walked away while repeating the words “ Beware the power, beware the power , Beware the power. In a blink of an eye the monk was gone with Shack’s cow. Shack did not care about the cow anymore he was thinking of how his mum is going to kill him. When Shack reached home he thought of an excuse to tell his mum.

Later that night Shack had a visitor at his house. She was the princess of the town, but she was trying to escape from prince Jeremy . A lightning bolt struck near Shack’s house. The impact was so hard it made him drop his beans. He saw that the beans fell into a glass of water, then vines grew out of the tiny beans. Shack stepped back slowly as the green long vines thickened and grew. Shack noticed it grew higher and higher. The huge vine then crashed through the clouds and led to the sky. As they grew a vine reached out and pulled them up sky high.

Shack and the princess found themselves stuck at the top of vine. The vine let them go and they landed on a big white cloud. Peering through the mist of the clouds Shack managed to make out a shape of a village up ahead. They headed to the village where hobbits was laughing and playing. Suddenly, one of the hobbits spotted them and screamed out “Giants!!!” Shrieking with fright, the hobbits scurried back into their underground burrows.

to be continued...

Warrior

As the trained warrior used his hands of iron to climb the cliff, his dream was to make it to the top so he can attend the school of Kung-fu. When he made it to the edge of the cliff he was
standing proud but now he had to use his legs of steel to go up the thousand steps of stairs. He finally made it with sweat of perseverance. He looked around and all he can hear is the whispers of the wind.

He knocked waiting for the Sensei anxiously to open the patterned ancient door. As the door opened the warriors heart was thumping the Sensei stepped out and pointed as if he was telling him to go away. When the Sensei closes the door the warrior just meditates until the Sensei let’s him in. The Sensei pointed away again and slammed the door. The warrior grew a frown and walked away. He then stopped and quinched his eyebrows then tightened his fists.

He turned around and karate kicked the door with anger. The Sensei stomped out with wild eyes he then pointed clearly at a sign. The sign then said use the side entrance the warrior stood there ashamed then walked away proud.

Lucky

I was walking in puddles and thought hopefully the storm doesn't come back. Then I felt a drip on my head and then boom roaring thunder was loud and scared everyone around me, I looked up and a bunch of clouds looked like they were forming a tornado. I looked at the other side of the beach and it had normal white clouds I thought weird than I saw a group of grey clouds coming closer to me I started running because had no umbrella. As I was running I kept my eyes the clouds then I saw a purple lighting blink twice then I finally made to the bus stop.

Diabetes

What is diabetes you say? Well, diabetes is a disorder in which you have too much glucose in your blood and not enough insulin. The pancreas, the gland close to your stomach, either can’t make the insulin or the insulin doesn't work. One of it’s most important jobs is to make the insulin, a hormone that allows your body to absorb the glucose so that your body can have energy.

To prevent diabetes you have to be on a diet and do exercise daily. Too much sugar is not good for people with diabetes because you can lose your limbs and eyesight. You can even lose your life through a heart attack, sleep apnoea or a stroke. You have to test your blood glucose level everyday. If it’s too much it means she/he missed an injection or ate too much sugar. Sometimes too much exercise means they have to eat something because their blood sugar level might be too low and they need more energy.

There is a healthy food pyramid for diabetics. It says to have small amounts of sweets, fried food, ice-cream and soft drinks. It also says to have moderate amounts of eggs, cheese, milk, and meat. And finally have a large amounts of fruit, vegetables, bread and cereals. This is also an important lifestyle to keep to prevent diabetes. So stay healthy everyone.

League fun!!!

Walking up to our league teachers I was shivering with excitement. Our tutor was James and he wanted us to recount what we did last week, we done communication and team-work last week. First we learned grubber kicks which was fun but also complicated at the same time. We then took two steps back and kicked from a longer distance. Finally we learned the chip kick which is the most favourite to boys my age. But we also had to go two steps back again which was pretty easier actually.

Next we played a game where two people will be on attack and one on defence it was fun but dirty and slippery at the same time. As I was running beside Alex (Attack partner) he went to grubber for me but he failed because Jayden (Class mate) kicked it away, what a fail. I was defence now and Frankie (Class mate) was running with the ball but when I was just about to touch him he passed it to Gabriel on the wing.

The lesson end and everyone was pumped and happy.

Welcome Will.i.am

As I was sitting thinking of the pop-star Will.I.am himself I couldn't handle the excitement that was flying around everyone's minds. We talked about how we are going to greet him and we also were practising our song which we well sing to Will.I.am. When he arrived in the hall everyone thought they were dreaming and everyone was talking about his cool glasses that had swagger.

He sat down and it was time to scream Welcome Will.I.am so we screamed and Mr Burt asked him was that loud enough and he said it was good. He then told us about his life and his career which was inspiring and unbelievable. He then gave us a huge amount of money of a cheque.

Then we preformed two items then sang a beautiful song called strive to succeed!!!

Triathlon - Melvin

As I was walking with goosebumps of excitement I realised I didn’t bring any togs for the water slide. I looked around and hardly any one had brought any togs except for Gabriel. As we sat down next to room 15 I thought it was race against classes, but I was wrong we went in groups, first up was the room 15 girls (only three of them had togs). I cheered as they started sliding. I thought hard that I really wanted to slide too. Everyone was screaming when they got to the bikes. All the girls rushed and some were cheating, so finally all they had to do was run which was the worst part.

It was the room 20 girls next they were more focused and confident but only one girl took on the water slide. The biking was intense for the girls so they were even faster in the running. Laita came first by a mile actually so she really did try her best. She was focused and ready.

It was time for the room 15 boys but none of them had togs. They were determined to come first and they were serious. The bike race was an exciting scene. Logan was coming first with Wyatt right behind him. When it got to the running Logan took his time whereas Wyatt was really keen to come first and he did.

Finally it was time for the room 20 boys to go which included me. It was only Gabriel, Tevita and I who took on the water slide. Unfortunately I paid for it as I got sick after the race. At the end Raenen came first and Auri came second which is still good for a triathlon.

I spy

If your bored or want to read then grab a book called I Spy by Jean Marzollo. It is a fun game where you have to find toys on a picture that has toys scattered everywhere it's quite tricky and there's riddles too. If you want to find more books where you have to seek then you should check your local library and school library. One of my favourite seek book are Spot Wally that is a hard one but is fun at the same time. Similar books are spot the difference and seek.

Stormy day

Leaves creating tornados and mud turning slimy and I think to myself “Why does the weather have to be like this on a Friday”. As I was walking up the foot-path I turned up my headphones because the sound of the roaring sea and slimy nature with the storm sounded horrible. I saw a mother trying to keep her pram steady and I felt sorry for her. My hoodie wasn’t keeping the spray off my face and my hands were shaking with purple fingers.

As I got up to the bus stop it was empty and I was sitting there all alone. Then all of a sudden a peice of paper flew on my face and I read it. It said, "Get wet today at the wave pools." I said to myself “Who wants to go to the pools today”. Then I saw a car speeding and when it drove past the next thing, all I saw was a wave of water aiming for me. When I opened my eyes I said to myself “Can this day get worse” and I sighed. I saw a dog coming up to me but it looked nice, then it peed on me.

Waitangi day!!!

On waitangi day we had a BBQ for lunch at my uncles place at Mt wellington. My my favourite food was the chicken pasta deeeeelicious. While we were waiting for dinner we were riding on our scooters racing one another but we had some falls. I was bored riding on scooters so I sneaked to my Uncles room with my brother and we were playing his PS3. The game we played was called MW3 and me and my brother was doing surviving mode but my brother kept on dieing.

When dinner was ready I was already on the table waiting for some chicken pasta. When I done eating my stomach so stuffed I went on a bean-bag and fell asleep. I woke up when their was music and everyone was dancing on the deck. I tried to fall asleep again but no chance with that sound. So got up and joined the party. It was time to go home and I felt exaughested. I couldn’t wait to go home and onto my bed.
